I guess we can say semi retirement is finally setting in. We sold our National cash register, and realizing it will be picked up by the new owner this weekend , I feel sad to see it leave Pumkins. So I decided to tell the story of where this particular register came from, and how it has been an important part of our business for 25 years.

Terry bought it from a "picker" who frequented the shop 25 years ago. The register came from Winnipeg. It was used in Christie's Bicycle Shop on Notre Dame for many years. It was built for William B. Christie and the bill of sale was September 23, 1912. The last patent of the register is April 10, 1906, nickle plated, model 1054G, and worked wonderfully. The only flaw was an "amount purchased" sign that would have sat on the very top, was missing. Through the years we loved the reaction customers gave when we would ring in the purchase. The bell was loud and the drawer opened with full force.

I hope the new owners will enjoy their new purchase as much as we did!
